What a wonderful first holiday celebration in room 1! Thank you to all the parents and the PTO for making this such a fun and special day! What a wonderful way to celebrate our fabulous moms! We hope you enjoyed being pampered at our Ma Spa! Happy Mother's Day! The first graders had a wonderful time living the life of children long ago! The Troy Historical Museum allows for a wonderful opportunity to step-inside and act as if we were a pioneer child! Below you will find the pictures from each of our holiday parties this year: Frozen and Valentine's Day! Enjoy! Our First Graders have worked SOOOO hard on their Animal Research Reports. They learned the process of choosing a topic, asking 3 thick questions, and researching to find the answers to those questions. They learned how to take notes and organize their learning. They learned how to write about what they learned through the point of view of their animal. They then assembled amazing posters to display their learning and worked with a partner to create a Keynote Presentation. So much learning, time and effort went in to these amazing First Grade products! I could not be more proud of their awesome thinking! Below you will find pictures and links to the Keynote presentations (in PDF format). ENJOY! To wrap-up our learning about character traits during our Character Study unit, the First Graders made their VERY FIRST iMovie Trailer! This was a project they did with their partners - without the help of the teacher! They did a wonderful job collaborating to think, plan, design, and create and I am so proud of the outcome! Enjoy!
The first graders have spent the last two weeks digging in to non-fiction reading! We have learned how to distinguish between fiction and nonfiction; we have learned about the many text features, such as, table of contents, labels, headings, diagrams, photographs, captions, glossary, etc.; we have learned how to use a teaching voice when reading nonfiction; we have learned how to find the BIG IDEA and give evidence (details) to support it; we have learned how to retell what we learn from reading nonfiction using our hand! That's a lot of learning! We will continue this learning over the coming weeks!
The first graders have recently completed the writing unit focused around Small Moment stories. We have used the protocol, Peel the Fruit, to study, uncover, and enhance our small moment writing. Take a look at all the thinking we've done... We began, on the outside, labeling things we noticed in good small moments. Then we generated questions we had about this type of writing to help guide our learning. As we learned, we added that to the inside of our fruit. Stay tuned to learn what students have decided is at the heart of small moment stories...
The first graders had a fabulous day celebrating Halloween! Thank you so much to all of the parents who donated time, energy, money, and goodies to make our day so sweet! |
